Unique Business Ideas
In these uncertain times, you may be among the many that are looking for unique business ideas to either provide you with an income or supplement the one that you have. Whether you have experienced layoff, found yourself drowning in debt or have lost money with the drop in the stock market, starting a full or part time business of your own can be fun and can help you to survive tough times. But, don’t ever let anyone tell you that it is easy. Working for yourself requires long hours of plenty of trial and error but in the end can be so worth it.
I recently moved about an hour away from the area that I had lived all of my life. The distance could have been 2,000 miles away because I didn’t know where to turn to find help that I needed in my new neighborhood. There was no source that I could go to that listed all of the available service providers that I needed that may have been right around the corner. I realize that the reason for this is that advertising is so expensive for most small businesses. As important as marketing is, a small businesses resources go to building the business and there is usually little left for marketing. Unfortunately, marketing is unaffordable until the money starts rolling in but is so needed to get the money to start rolling in.
I know this because it happened to me. I always checked out unique business ideas and actually started a few businesses that for one reason or another, didn’t work out. Then I got the idea to build a website where all small businesses could be found. I used all of my resources to build GoldLatch.com and then had nothing left to get it marketed and out to the people that so badly needed it.
So, the website that I built to promote small businesses was failing because I was unable to get the word out. I spent a year going to local small business meetings, local chamber of commerce events and subbing for BNI members telling lots of people with unique business ideas about my website. I started out charging only $10.00 a month, but few people wanted to pay anything to be the first to help build up my site. When I got to the point that I had to go back to a paying job, I was no longer able to meet people one by one and do my best to convince them to try out my product but, I wasn’t ready to give up. I decided to remove the cost and monitize GoldLatch in order to produce an income from it. Unfortunately, I knew nothing about this and had a huge learning curve that was just going to take time.
Of course, in order for my new plan to work, I needed traffic and that doesn’t happen without a lot of work either. Through trial and error, I have learned that blogging was a much easier way for me to build traffic and so, I started this blog in order to reach the group of people that GoldLatch.com is built to help.
